Child marriage continues to be a significant barrier to girls’ education, health, and overall empowerment in Nepal, particularly in Sudurpashchim Province. To address this issue through culturally relevant approaches, RUWDUC organized a Deuda Competition at Mahendra Secondary School under the Girls Empowerment Project (GEP) Phase III, in support of Population Connection, USA with the theme “Ending Child Marriage.”
Using Deuda Naach—a traditional medium of storytelling and social expression—adolescent girls and students creatively shared powerful messages against child marriage while promoting education, rights, and empowerment. The event not only raised awareness among students, teachers, and the wider school community but also encouraged meaningful discussions within families and communities.
The competition provided a vibrant platform for adolescent girls to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills while using their voices for social change. By blending culture with advocacy, this initiative contributed to strengthening youth engagement in ending harmful practices and promoting a future where girls are empowered to learn, grow, and lead.
