Under the Girls Empowerment Project supported by the Population Connection and implemented by the Rural Women’s Development and Unity Centre (RUWDUC), a range of essential materials were handed over to the school to strengthen adolescent girls’ empowerment and create a more supportive and enabling learning environment.
The provision of these materials was guided by the need to address key barriers affecting adolescent girls’ education, health, and participation in school activities. Limited access to proper menstrual hygiene facilities, inadequate learning resources, and fewer opportunities for active engagement often hinder girls’ confidence, attendance, and overall development.
To respond to these challenges:
Sanitary vending machines and incinerators were provided to ensure safe and dignified menstrual hygiene management, reducing absenteeism and shyness among girls during menstruation.
Books for school libraries were distributed to enhance access to knowledge and promote a culture of reading and learning among the students.
Yearly calendars and digital LED boards were supported to improve communication, awareness dissemination, and interactive learning within schools.
Sports dress for the president running Shield was provided to encourage girls’ participation in extracurricular activities, leadership, and teamwork.
